Newark Tech's ESL Graduation

Class of 2015

On Friday, June 5, 2015 the Newark Tech ESL Department under the leadership of Mr. Enrique Lomba held its annual graduation ceremony.   ESL graduation is the true mark of diversity in Newark Tech. The graduates and families were congratulated and welcomed by the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Ms. Dicxiana Carbonell. Principal Oge Denis welcomed and congratulated the students for a job well done as they continue their academic career.  Vice Principal Carmen Morales honored the graduates with her speech in Spanish.

The ceremony was led by two students Sugeiri Ulerio and Yaser Cid. The program continued with grade level speeches. The  first speech was by graduating junior Yaser Cid. Yaser’s speech reflected on his wonderful experiences learning with Mr. Caban and Ms. Mellakh. Yaser said “The biggest challenge I faced in the USA was speaking English.” “Some of my classmates made fun of me because I have an accent. I finally faced the with my accent and reality that I will speak English without fear and not allow my classmates to annoy me.”  Yasir has learned to never let anything or anyone stop him from being the best. Yasir presented the juniors with graduation certificates.

The next speech was by graduating sophomore Sugeiri Ulerio. Sugeiri appreciated the help she received from Mr. Caban, Mr. Ojo and Mr. Dedalonis  and was excited to graduate the ESL program. “I will never forget the ESL program that helped me improve my academic skills, to be creative and have fun at the same time,” stated Sugeiri. “I advise all of my fellow ESL peers to continue working hard and never give up when you encounter some obstacles.” Ms. Ulerio presented the sophomores graduation certificates.

“Since I wanted to be fluent in English, I started reading many books and watching movies in English in the library,” Miguelina stated. When I came to Newark Tech, I thought I was ready to leave ESL but I was wrong. My main problem was writing long sentences, paragraphs and essays.

A wise man once said, “With experience you become wiser you and you will realize that sometimes bad things happen for a reason. And somehow you will see that some good came out of the event in your life that you once considered a failure. Do not fear failure. It is a part of your journey to finding your way to success.”
