Skills USA Competition

Several of our students competed against other CTE students from throughout the state in different categories at the annual state competition for SkillsUSA and they did well.

Ramon Reinoso from Mr. Rasheed's welding program competed admirably against some very tough competition.  As a junior and a first time participant, he will have a very good chance of winning a medal at next year's event.

Nathaly Maza and Lonilda Perrin also performed very well in the Cabinetmaking contest.  They were up against some students that had obviously competed in prior competitions and as first-timers, they held their own.  I am quite proud of their efforts.

Lastly, congratulations to Edwin Checo and Daniel Sylvester from Mr. Scaler's Auto Tech program for winning a bronze medal in the Technology Display competition.  Their display and skill in explaining their Electronic Throttle Control presentation was quite impressive, certainly enough to influence the judges in their favor.

If you have any of these young people in your classes, please offer them congratulations for their efforts. Additionally, thanks to Mr. Jones, ,Mr. Rasheed, Mr. Scaler, Mr. Mattoon and Dr. Pederson.

Book Club

The Book Club under the guidance of Mrs. Nawrocki held a Maker Day that was quite successful as students  made use of noncirculating books to create art. The finished products are on display in the library. The designs are another aspect of Newark Tech students showing creativity and skill.
